Ningbo obtains vehicle import approval

After a nearly two-year application process, Meishan Bonded Port Area has obtained the vehicle import approval officially issued by China's State Council, said local authorities on November 11.
This marks a major breakthrough for Ningbo port. It is estimated that the automobiles import in Meishan Bonded Port Area will amount to 200,000 in 2020, equal to the output of a large-scale automobile manufacturer. With its growing capacity, Meishan Bonded Port Area will form a highly influential and high value-added industry chain.
"We will give full play to the advantages of our location, policy and function while keeping a balanced export and import volume. We will strive to build a trade platform for automobile import and export, and establish the most convenient channel and distribution center for vehicles and parts in Zhejiang Province or the Yangtze River Delta region." said a top official of Meishan Bonded Port Area.
The move will further improve the international competitiveness and shipping services of Ningbo Port, which is to add momentum to ocean economy development in Zhejiang Province and improve the opening-up economy in an all-around way.
According to the plan, the automobile importing region in Bonded Port Area, with a total area of about 1,000 mu (164.7 acre), is divided into four functional zones, namely, the dock area, the storage yard, the inspection and testing area, and the comprehensive and value-added services area.
The project will be carried on in two phases. Its first phase includes the construction of the storage yard, the roll-on-roll-off dock and the automobile testing line. The second phase includes the establishemnt of an automobile trade center with a value-added service center, a distribution center, an automobile decoration center, and relevant supporting facilities.
Meishan Bonded Port Area is the fifth bonded port in China and the only one in Zhejiang Province. The State Council officially approved the establishment of Meishan Bonded Port Area this March. It boasts 29 international routes to Japan, South Korea, West Africa, South America, the eastern United States, making notable contribution to the export and import in Zhejiang Province.
With two berths of 100,000 tonnage in operation now, Meishan Bonded Port Area plans to add five more berths into use next year to handle the roll-on-roll-off shipping of automobiles. Meanwhile, a roll-on-roll-off dock for imported automobiles is under construction
