International sci-tech cooperation promoting development of Ningbo enterprises

The collecting work for 2013 special international sci-tech cooperation projects (major projects) has been launched recently by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and Ningbo has started its collecting work correspondingly. It is learned from Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau that it has organized related experts to assess the 24 collected projects and has finally chosen 8 of them to submit to the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
"International sci-tech cooperation" is by no means new to Ningbo. In the past few years, to break the technological bottlenecks and accelerate industrial transformation and up-grading, Ningbo has been actively carrying out international sci-tech cooperation by means of technology introduction, talents introduction, cooperative research and overseas training. Quite a number of major sci-tech cooperation projects have been sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In 2008, one international sci-tech cooperation project in Ningbo was sponsored by the ministry with a grant of 940,000 yuan. In 2009, another project was granted one million yuan. In 2010, two projects got sponsored with a total grant of 15.56 million yuan. And in 2011, nine projects were sponsored by the ministry with a total grant of 35.22 million yuan.
Jessn Ocean Group LLC is an enterprise specialized in the fishing equipments, electrical fishing products and deck machinery. Over the past few years, the company has introduced advanced technology in ship products from Japan, Germany and Iceland. After years of learning and developing, it has gradually mastered the core technology, and has ranked among the top in China in terms of the localization for fishing equipments. According to He Bo, General Manager of the company, the company has hired senior experts from Japan, Iceland and Spain as technology advisors, and has been carrying out international sci-tech cooperation by assigning, introducing and buying technologies. By now, the company has become a high-tech enterprise integrating sci-tech research, production and operation, and is intent on getting listed on the stock market within five years.
It is learned that Ningbo has realized high-end sci-tech cooperation with over 20 countries including the United States, Japan, Russia and the United Kingdom. The cooperation pattern has also changed from single-project introduction to innovate carrier introduction, from focusing on talents introduction to universities and colleges to talents introduction to enterprises, and from short-term sci-tech cooperation to long-term strategic cooperation, which has enabled Ningbo to rank among the top in terms of international sci-tech cooperation projects in China.
As the most important innovative platform for international sci-tech cooperation, universities, colleges and research institutions have been playing a key role in introducing advanced foreign technologies and promoting the transfer and transformation of those advanced technologies. Since 2009, five universities or institutions, including Ningbo University, Ningbo Branch of Ordnance Science Institute of China, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Nottingham Ningbo China and Ningbo Institute of Technology of Zhejiang University, have been awarded the title of "International Science & Technology Cooperation bases" by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.
