Fast developing high-end shipping service industry in Ningbo

The newly founded Ningbo Shipping Exchange has made great progress. Since its opening in September 2012, Ningbo Shipping Exchange has had 275 registered users of large shipping services and 355 registered users of personnel services. It has completed shipping business of 99 ships, valuing 1.196 billion yuan. The business of personnel service involves 3,050 people. It has basically fulfilled its service functions in information, business agency and exchange statistics.
Ningbo International Shipping Center is playing its absorbing role. Ningbo International Shipping Center, opened on February 1, 2009, now has 170 customs service counters, offering almost all customs services. The one-stop services are attracting more and more shipping and logistic enterprises. At present, The Shipping Center has housed various companies of shipping, port service, shipping agency, cargo agency, and customs declaration.
The principal shipping business of the world has been moving to Asia and China in particular and China has covered half of the shipping services of the world. Over the past 10 years, the annual growth rate of cargo-handling capacity of the port of Ningbo reaches 13.5% and the annual handling capacity of containers increases by 37.8% annually.
On September 18, 2012, Ningbo Shipping Exchange opened in Ningbo International Shipping Service Center. Ningbo Shipping Exchange is a platform of shipping exchange, shipping information and shipping service. The “shipping exchange service pilot project” for the construction of the platform of the integrated services has been listed by the National Development and Reform Commission as a national e-business pilot project, the only project in China concerning shipping exchange.
Today, the annual turnover of the shipping market in Ningbo reaches 1 billion yuan, involving over 10 services including ship selling agency, market investment consultation and ship import and export agency. It has a ship auction mechanism, for a market of ships.
According to the statistics of the Shanghai international research center, this year the cargo and container handling will increase by at least 5% and in Asia it will increase by 7%.
