Export price for solar cells falls sharply

As a result of the price plunge of the upstream raw materials, solar cells saw a great decline in the export price. Statistics from Ningbo Customs show that in the firs 11 months this year, the cumulative export of solar cells through Ningbo Port reached 10.69 million, with a total worth of US$1.15 billion and an average export price of US$107.9 each, down by 56.2% over the same period last year.

In terms of target markets, as the biggest market, EU exported 5.881 million solar cells via Ningbo Port, down by 15.9%. As to such emerging markets as Hong Kong and South Korea, the export soared, with export to Hong Kong reaching 1.523 million, up by 34.5 times and that to South Korea reaching 594,000, up by 48.8 times.

To promote the development of photovoltaic industry, the State Council has recently issued five special policies including encouraging the installation of PV electricity-generating system, establishing convenient and efficient incorporation service system, improving the pricing mechanism for electricity and prohibiting the local protectionism. According to some related officials from Ningbo Customs, with the new deal for PV industry, the domestic PV application market is expected to usher in a major turnaround. In the meanwhile of developing their exports, the local solar cell enterprises should prepare themselves for the exploration and expansion of the domestic market.
