It's Happening....

60G international internet channel completed

Ningbo enterprises can now enjoy the international information superhighway at home. It is learned from the Ningbo Branch of China Telecom that the special international internet channel has been approved, with a band width of 60G, connecting directly to the POP terminals with Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore, London and Frankfurt. So far, several hundred local enterprises or institutions in Ningbo have realized the overseas high-speed visit and real-time communications via this "international express train".
In the past, the internet users in China had to access the international websites via the CHINANET units in Beijing Shanghai and Guangzhou. For a long time, due to the lack of a special channel, a large number of Ningbo enterprises involved in international trade and services set up their servers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or even overseas cities, which resulted in a high cost for hosting and remote maintenance, hindering the transformation from the manufacturing-intensive industry to the information-intensive industry.

"I'll just give you an example. Once, we spent over 30 hours to just download a 10M business data from Australia." said Zeng Jiajun, IT Manager of Junsheng Group. With the opening of the "international express train", the company now enjoys less transmission nodes, a lower packet loss rate, and a much better overseas internet transmission environment.
The construction of the special internet channel in Ningbo was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2014. According to the plan, the three major internet service operators in China will construct the special international internet channels connecting Ningbo with Europe, North America, Japan, South Korea and the Southeast Asia via the existing nodes in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. By 2017, the band width to Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou will reach 100G, 140G and 130G respectively.
As an important infrastructure of the smart city construction and information economy, the special internet channel has benefited an increasing number of local enterprises and institutions. For example, the businesses in Yuyao Fur Product City can conduct real-time overseas bidding via the "international express train" service. The Shanghai Volkswagen Branch at Hangzhou Bay New Zone and the University of Nottingham, Ningbo can conduct high-speed intercommunication with their headquarters in Germany and the UK.
"The first phase of the cloud computing center will be put into use early next year, and we will set aside a certain proportion of information resources to connect the special channel, making it a special cloud computing center for the foreign trade enterprises." said a person in charge from Ningbo China Telecom. The new center will try to attract the settlement of the cloud trusting units of the local foreign trade enterprises from Europe and North America, and become a base for cross-border E-business platforms in Ningbo.
