On September 5, Ningbo Bureau of Quality Supervision announced the quality surveillance and sampling test results of products during the first six months. Among all the 1376 batches of products of 131 categories from 9 industries, 1255 were declared up to the standard, and the pass rate stood at 91.2%, which remained at the same high level as the same period of last year.
The sampling test finds the 100% pass rate in 90 categories of products, including frozen beverage, beer, T-shirt, anti-burglary safe, pressure cooker, indoor lighting switch, electric water heater, etc. The pass rate of some major products under surveillance, such as liquefied petroleum gas pressure regulator and fridge, also reaches 100%.
In terms of industries, the pass rate of products of medicine, textile, building material and machinery is above average. In terms of regions, the pass rate of products from Yuyao, Yinzhou and Cixi stands high over 90%.

Ningbo community college education centre for the aged opened on September 5, with more than 1700 senior citizens enrolled as the first of its students.
As is known, the education resources for colleges for the aged people used to be quite inadequate. Fortunately, with the opening of the Community College Education Centre, things will change greatly.
With the development of idea of lifelong education, an increasing number of senior people devote themselves into all kinds of learning activities. In order to satisfy the requirements, Ningbo is building a new education network for the people advanced in age in all administrative levels. One or two municipal colleges for the old will be established, and at least two independent colleges or learning centers will be opened in each district or county. The development of education resources for the people senior in age will be accelerated, and some educational websites will be built. All these projects are to provide good services for those senior learners as much as possible. The opening of the Community College Education Centre for the old is part of this endeavor.
It is reported that the education centre planned to enroll 1500 students and open 48 classes providing 9 courses such as computer, music and dance, and health and care, etc. Finally, over 1700 senior students were accepted, far more than what was planned. Compared with Ningbo University for the Aged, the requirements for the entrance acceptance of Ningbo Community College Education Centre are not as strict. Any healthy senior citizen of Ningbo is eligible to enroll for the course on presentation of the ID card. Among the first batch of students, quite a lot are just new citizens of Ningbo.
In the past, the colleges for the old were all managed by Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Retired Veteran Cadres. But with the participation of educational institutes, there will be new changes in the educational system for the aged people.

On the afternoon of September 3, the 3rd China Electronic Service Meeting & the Awarding Ceremony 2011 Ningbo Innovative Designing Competition opened in Ningbo International Conference and Exhibition Center. Xin Renzhou, vice director of the industrial policy department of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Gao Xinmin, vice executive director of China Internet Federation, and Yu Hongyi, Member of Ningbo Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor of Ningbo, attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Academician He Jifeng, Dean of Software College of East China Normal University, Li Anmin, president of Shanghai Research Institute of China Telecom, Cui Feng, director of E-business R&D of IBM, Qin Zheng, director of Software Engineering and Management Institute of Qinghua University, and Tian Ning, Panshi Information Technology Company, made talks on various topics like smart city construction, brand strategy, application of core technologies of modern logistic industry and so on.
2011 Ningbo Innovative Designing Competition was jointly hosted by Ningbo National Hi-tech Zone, Ningbo Municipal Economic Commission, Ningbo Foreign Economic Cooperation Bureau and Ningbo Youth League Committee. The theme of the competition is "Innovative designing for better life in the future". It was initiated in April this year, and it received over 800 works for the competition. At the meeting, awards were made to the winners.

According to Ningbo Customs, China Customs, based on statistics from the General Administration of Customs, recently released China Top 100 Cities of China in Foreign Trade fro 2010-2011, in which, Ningbo got 74.8 points, ranking No.7 among the Top 100 Cities of China in Foreign Trade.
On the list are also 10 cities of Zhejiang, including Zhoushan and Hangzhou and of these cities Ningbo ranks No.1.
The assessment system for the Top 100 Cities of China in Foreign Trade comprises indicators in capacity, potential, development, efficiency and structure. On the list, Shenzhen, Suzhou and Shanghai are the top 3. Since 2001, with the rise of the emerging economic bodies and the intensification of the global problems, the world economy is quickly entering the post crisis epoch.
Reportedly, from January to July this year, the foreign trade of Ningbo saw a consistent growth. The total of import and export reaches 55.71 billion US dollars, increased by 20% above the same period of the previous year. Of the total, the export is $34.25 billion, and the import 21.46 billion US dollars, increased by 19.1% and 21.5% respectively. Of the cities independently listed in the national plan, the total of import and export of Ningbo in the 7 months is only next to Shenzhen (235.78 billion US dollars), and in this respect, Ningbo ranks the 2nd position.
