On September 9, Ningbo Scientific Popularity Day 2012 opened. Yu Hongyi, Member of Ningbo Municipal Party Committee and Director of Publicity Department of Ningbo Municipal Party Committee, Hu Modun, Vice Director of the Standing Committee of Ningbo Municipal People's Congress, and Zheng Yu, Vice Chairman of Ningbo People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony. It reported that from September 9 to late September, over 100 activities of scientific popularity will be organized by the association of sciences of the city.
The event will have colorful activities: a composition contest of scientific popularity for the young people, a Sino-American interview of scientific popularity, a contest of q&a on popular ocean science, promotional activity of community science popularity "food safety and public health" and so on.
From now to late September, over 100 exciting scientific popularity activities will be organized by the associations of science and technology in the 11 countries, cities and districts, the 74 societies and the 49 scientific popularity bases. It is estimated that the activities will attract over 1 million visitors.
The theme of the event is food safety and public health.

According to a news conference held on September 11 by Ningbo Municipal Government, the 5th China (Ningbo) Farmers' Film Festival will start from September 14.
The Farmers' Film Festival started in 2008 and as a cultural event of Ningbo, the festival is quite well known in the country.
According to Zou Daming, Spokesman and Deputy Director of Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, News and Press, the festival will include such events as the countryside premiere of the film "Loyalty and Betrayal", show of the participating movies, the performance of film songs, the election of best liked actors and actresses by famers, and a meeting on the countryside films.
For the famers in mountain areas, the organizing committee of the festival will launch a program to donate film shows to farmers in the old revolutionary base areas and the rural areas in the west regions.
According to Zou Daming, the program of the "movie showing in the rural areas" is a cultural service program initiated by State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television of the P.R.C, in the form that government buys farmers movies. In recent years, with the implement of the program "10,000 film shows for rural areas", Ningbo has in the lead of the country in the target of "one free film every month for a village", all the countryside areas except the old revolutionary base areas and west regions. The organizer of the festival hopes enterprises and individuals will show their concern to the farmers in the old revolutionary base areas and west regions and buy them movies. According to statistics by Zhenhai Development and Reform Bureau, industrial investment of Zhenhai reaches 5.596 billion RMB yuan from this January to August, up by 68.6% above the same period of last year, marking a new record in Zhenhai industrial investment.
The driving forces of the high investment are the startups of 58 new projects. Since the second half of last year, affected by retarded global economic recovery, Zhenhai economy suffers accordingly. To deal with this problem, Zhenhai District pays more attention on attracting investment and gives full support to large projects so as to drive economic development. Up to now, investment of Heyuan chemical engineering project, Jiangning chemical engineering project and Zhetiedafeng chemical engineering project amounts to 2.876 billion RMB yuan, accounting for 56.6 percent of the total investment.
At the meantime, technological transformation and renovation of Zhenhai local companies are vigorously advancing, which not only makes contribution to industrial investment, but also promotes the transformation of the pattern of economic development. For example, 110 million RMB yuan investment had been completed for the technological renovation project of Ningbo Xinfu chemical engineering Co., Ltd., a project of resource comprehensive utilization production line whose annual turnover of sulfuric acid production from sulfur-burning amounts to 600,000 tons. This project makes use of international advanced technology—American sulfuric acid production from sulfur-burning at a lower operating temperature, yielding more than 1 billion RMB yuan incremental income. Ningbo Alps Electronic Co. Ltd completed an investment of 85 million RMB yuan in the production line technological transformation of electronic products, and it is estimated that there will be 200 million RMB yuan incremental income annually after the transformation, with the profit and tax hitting 70 million RMB yuan. Statistics show, of the planned total investment of 5.758 billion RMB yuan in 113 technological transformation projects, 1.744 billion RMB yuan investment has completed, up by 24.3% over the same period of last year. Among all the 113 technological transformation projects, 52 projects have been listed as key projects with the total investment adds up to 1.16 billion RMB yuan. It is estimated that there will be 3.5 billion RMB yuan incremental income annually with the profit and tax hitting 300 million RMB yuan.

On the recent award ceremony of the forth China Festival Prize, Ningbo won the "Festival Achievement Prize" for Ningbo Tourism Festival and Xu Xiake Tourism Festival.
Opened in 2008, Ningbo Tourism Festival is the largest comprehensive tourism festival in Ningbo. With the concept of "tourism development shared by all", the festival aims at making progress on tourism consumption and affordable tourism. Now, it is an important part of Ningbo tourism.
Hosted by Chinese Culture Promotion Society and themed on "commonweal, fairness and accountability", China Festival Prize enjoys a high reputation in the industry. In the past, Ningbo Linag-Zhu Love Festival, China Fishing Festival (Xiangshan) and Maitreya Buddha Cultural Festival (Fenghua) were crowned as "most popular festival", "best culture festival" and "best environment festival" respectively.
