New green landscape to be built

The vertical greening project in Ningbo will gain new achievements, that is, by the end of 2015, there will be 600 more green piers and flower cases will be equipped on a 1.3km section of the related road.
According to the municipal Urban Management Bureau, the project involves the Airport Road (the section between Lianfeng Road and Qinglin Bay Bridge Road, and the Tongtu Road (the section between the Tongtu Road Viaduct and the West Yongfeng Road). Over 600 piers on the two roads will be greened, 7.5km in length.
Currently, the Airport Road and Tongtu Road, the two major roads across the urban area from west to east, have only the basic roadside green belts. However, with so many elevated pillars around, the landscape needs improving. The vertical greening system of the viaduct will adopt a new model with low cost, simple construction and satisfying landscape effect. The fast-growing climbing plants will provide a good covering of the pillars with the multi-season flowers, showing an excellent beautifying effect.
Flower cases will be installed along the viaduct and central guardrail with a spacing of 1.3 meters along the 1.3km section. The cases consist of a water storage layer and a planting layer, with the isolating boards in between. The water from the storage layer can be transported to the planting layer through the spongy bars, thus providing watering for the flowers.
