Achievements made at demonstration base for agricultural

In order to keep the “freshness” of Fenghua honey peaches, recently, in the workshop of Yuanlan Food Technology Company located in Fenghua District, workers are busy meeting orders for honey peaches at full capacity. “The orders for honey peach wine and jelly peaches have been arranged until the end of this month”, said Zhong Xuezhen, who is in charge of the company. With the support of the scientific research team of the Processing Institute of the municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the “bottleneck” problem of browning of honey peach juice and fruit wine has been solved, and the honey peach industry chain is becoming larger and larger, with the sales value of juice and other products reaching 1.2 million yuan.

Honey peach is a characteristic and advantageous agricultural product in Fenghua District, with an annual output of over 70,000 tons. However, the loss rate in planting, storage and preservation is from 30% to 50%.

Since 2019, when Yuanlan Food Technology Company became one of the demonstration bases for promoting agriculture through science and technology of the municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the great problem-solving effect has begun to emerge. Zhu Lin, the person in charge of the Processing Institute of the municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, stated that after in-depth research, the team has focused on the project of “research and demonstration of key technologies for logistics reservation and high-value utilization of peaches”. After three years of hard work, a complete set of key technologies for preventing browning of NFC fruit juice of peaches has been developed through analysis of processing links such as raw material maturity screening, pre-treatment, juice extraction methods, browning agent selection, high-pressure homogenization, and ultra-high pressure sterilization. In addition, in order to further increase the added value of agricultural products and increase farmers’ income, the team has developed a new product this year: the jelly peach.

“In the fruit thinning stage, 30% to 40% of premature peaches will be removed. After multiple joint efforts, we have developed such core technologies as green reduction, de-bittering and detoxification, and fruit softening. The processed young peaches then have a soft, sticky, sweet taste and can be used as snacks,” said Zhu Lin.

Researchers endeavor to solve problems from farmers and enterprises. The same applies to Ningbo Meicheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd., another demonstration base. “Our company is mainly engaged in the research and sales of testing reagents, and pays great attention to the stability of products. For example, seafood testing need to be fast, but previous testing requires a waiting time of one or two hours before producing the results, with low accuracy. Since our collaboration with the municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the testing speed of the same batch of samples has doubled, and the accuracy has increased by 10%. As a result, the company has added more than five million yuan in sales.” said Chen Daoding, the person in charge of the company, who is very satisfied with the results of the demonstration base.

Since 2019, the municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been promoting the implementation of the “Ten-Hundred-Thousand” project of promoting agriculture through science and technology, by focusing on the high-quality implementation of scientific research projects, efficient transformation of research results, and high-precision problem-solving through scientific and technological services. So far, the city has established 14 core demonstration bases for promoting agriculture through science and technology, radiating over 200 bases, trained 13,000 grassroots agricultural technicians and high-quality farmers, and solved over 400 technical problems. As the engine for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technological services, the “Ten-Hundred-Thousand” project has led to the application of excellent varieties and technologies to over 35 million mu of fields
