On July 30, a mountaineer returned from the Jiulong Lake Resort in Zhenhai District “Just a few months apart, the rural environment can be that different.” he marveled. In the latest ranking for urban and rural environment in Zhenhai District, Jiulong Lake Town won the first place.
“The improvement of environmental outlook is brought about by the full implementation of the grid model of sanitation management.” said Hong Yuejun, Party Secretary of Jiulong Lake Town. Despite the beautiful scenery of Jiulong Lake area in the town, local residents and enterprises were lacking in awareness of environmental protection, leading to such problems as river blockage by garbage. To address the problem, the town has launched an environmental remediation campaign since April. The 11 villages and some major streets and rivers are divided into 86 grids, and 86 grid supervisors composed of leaders from the villages are made responsible for the grids, to ensure that each area and grid is taken good care of at any time, the so-called “full regional management and seamless cleaning”.
Some garbage collectors just place and dump their garbage randomly, serving as a big problem for the local environmental sanitation and people’s life, which becomes a starting point for the grid management. Recently, in Changhong Village, where there used to be many garbage collectors, 23 unlicensed collectors have been removed. In the two licensed collecting stations for used tires and recyclable steel products, all the items are neatly placed. According to Zhang Gaoping, Vice-secretary of Party Committee of Jiulong Lake Town, in

accordance with the principle of “regulating the licensed and removing the unlicensed”, 65 unlicensed collecting stations in five villages have been closed and 31 licensed collectors in the Changshi recycling center have been remediated with proper management.
A strict evaluation system should be in place for the proper implementation of the rules and regulations. Gan Xuhui, Director of the Group Office for “beautiful Jiulong Lake” remediation action, showed over 200 photos of the sanitation dead corners since the implementation of “grid management”. This way, the related departments will get timely feedback and complete the remediation within schedule. Apart from the daily supervision, an on-site assessment team composed of staff from the villages, streets and river departments as well as officials in charge of sanitation conducts a monthly check of the 64 village grids, 22 street grids and all the major river grids. “The system is made up of different links. Everyone should be responsible for their assigned areas. This makes it possible to completely clear the dead corners and solve the “rebounding” problem.” said Gan Xuhui.
Good environment can bring about new atmosphere. The Water Dragon Resort is well under construction in Hetou Village of Jiulong Lake Town. The planned area is about 304 hectares, with a total investment of 12 billion yuan. There will be such cultural, leisure and tourist projects as an agricultural leisure park, boutique hotels, a health spa, a museum, a theatre and “18 scenery spots of Jiulong Lake”, and some real estate projects. “With better environment, we can attract more tourists. And soon the place will become a hot attraction.” said Xu Hongliang, Secretary of Hetou Village.
