More than 200,000 kilogram of Yuyao barberry is sold every day to Shanghai and Hangzhou, despite its high price, which is 30%-40% higher than that of barberry produced in other places. And tourists flow to Yuyao to pick bayberry by themselves. Peasants are happy to say that their high income owes much to the national famous brand.
To strengthen the competitiveness of byproducts and increase the income for peasants, Yuyao resorts to register agricultural products as brand ones. Last year, the agricultural output value reached 8.055 billion yuan, 80% of which was from brand agricultural products, contributing to an income increase of 1.3 billion yuan.
Famous as the China Bayberry Town, China Mustard Town and China Cherry Town, Yuyao now has 15 agricultural bases at the municipal level, which have led to the establishment of 110 leading agricultural enterprises and 357 agricultural cooperatives, incorporating 497,400 families and 557,700 mu land.
To enhance the core value and market value of the brand, more than 50 agricultural cooperatives and enterprises have cooperated with over 40 research organizations to set up 39 privately-run research institutions, introducing and developing over 200 new products and technologies.
