Hi everyone, I am a musician and am hoping to meet some guitar players and other musicians (of any level) in the Ningbo area for the purpose of building a live music scene for expats, with expats. I have a band and we play regularly in Ningbo; would like to organize an Open Mic activity and hopefully pull musical foreigners together. Any thoughts, comments and suggestions are welcome or you may call me on 13771798600 (daytime).

O’Reilly’s Irish Pub has been satisfying both visitors and locals alike from the same location on Caihong Alley (opposite the Sheraton) since it opened its doors in 2001. The old “Irish pub” look adds a welcoming charm not commonly found outside Ireland. As they would say in Ireland, this place is brilliant. During the day and early evening, O’Reilly’s is home to an interesting mix of both locals and expats in need of food or refreshments and warm neighborhood coziness; not too big not too small, stylish and cool yet unpretentious. O’Reilly’s has excellent pub cuisine and a full bar with fine ales on tap including both Guinness and Kilkenny draft. The old “tavern” look has become a true landmark in Ningbo, and inside the pub, the turn-of-the-century Irish Saloon theme keeps folk coming back. With live music weekly from Irish band the Boxty Rebellion; on their first tour to Ningbo with a varied repertoire of Irish traditional music including Irish traditional / folk music, popular rebel songs, drinking songs and more… their repertoire is wide and also includes many American music favorites from Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Doors, Jimmy Buffet, Willie Nelson to JJ Cale. The band lineup at O’Reilly’s includes three members; James McGeough (aka Jimmy Dash), Dave Matthews and Daniel Tibbs. Their sound is a cross between rustic Irish and pub traditional with a solid pulse and tempo to keep things moving! More recently, O’Reilly’s opened the Dublin Bar, a sister pub 2 doors away, another authentic Irish bar, drawing on the long tradition and loyal client base in Ningbo. On busy nights, the atmosphere in O’Reilly’s is very alive and the bar is elbow to elbow locals and expat regulars including a strong following from the Sheraton across the street. True to its roots and still a little rough around the edges, both O’Reilly’s and the Dublin Bar are as the real a deal and as good as it gets outside of Ireland.
