More than 60 Yangmei samples from the city participated in the competition

On June 20th, the 2023 Ningbo Boutique Yangmei Selection, hosted by Ningbo Agricultural Technology Promotion Station, was held in Cicheng, Jiangbei District. At the selection, 64 samples of Yangmei

from all over the city competed for the Gold and Silver Award through comprehensive evaluation of appearance, taste, and other factors.

At 9:30 am on the same day, participating Yangmei from various farms were successively delivered to the venue, and the staff numbered and placed the samples one by one.

A panel of experts from Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Provincial Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, and Ningbo conducted on-site evaluations on each sample. The first step is to evaluate the appearance. The selected Yangmei for this competition are generally large in size, mostly black in color, and there are also a small number of white or pink varieties. The main varieties are local water chestnuts, as well as Dongkui, and pink Yangmei.

After the appearance rating, a taste rating is also conducted. Experts will conduct on-site tasting and those with good taste and flavor are rated higher. At the same time, there is also a group of workers who weigh and test for soluble solids, i.e. sugar content testing. On site, it was observed that through instrument testing, some Yangmei have a high sugar content, reaching over 12 degrees, and some even below 10 degrees, which is also used as a scoring standard.

"The good weather this year is beneficial to the local planting of Yangmei. Therefore, the quality of Yangmei in this competition is very good. They are generally large and taste very good." The relevant person in charge of Ningbo Agricultural Technology Promotion Station said that in recent years, Ningbo's Yangmei industry has been greatly impacted by Yangmei from outside the city. Some people said that local Yangmei is not better than imported ones. In fact, there are also high-quality local Yangmei. Under the guidance of the agricultural technology department, local farmers have also continuously introduced new varieties, especially with the promotion of planting techniques such as insulated greenhouses and rain and sun shading greenhouses, the scale of high-quality Yangmei has been continuously expanded and the quality has been continuously improved.

After the experts score on that day, the staff will conduct comprehensive statistics on the scores and ultimately determine the gold and silver award
