Ningbo's plant extracts export soars

Ningbo saw sharp increase of the plant extract export in 2012, said local authority. Ningbo Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau inspected a total of 601 batches of (523.99 tons) exported plant extract, worth $60,298,000, an increase of 28.42 percent, 7.34 percent and 11.46 percent, respectively. The export value tops 370 million yuan, which means the average price of plant extract reaches as high as US$ 115 per kilogram.

As natural plant extract is increasingly popular with the international market in recent years, it is becoming a new advantage of Ningbo's processed agricultural products for exportation. Currently Ningbo has a number of leading manufacturers of plant extracts, who reported rising exporting volume to a number of countries. Their products are exported to 34 countries and regions. Exporting value to seven countries (regions) topped US$ 1 million, which accounted for 95.18 percent of the total exports. The largest local exporter is Ningbo Green Health Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., with an annual export of US$ 52.527 million, accounting for 87.11 percent of the total export in Ningbo.

Plant extract is widely used in pharmaceutical industry as major raw materials for the beneficial ingredients it contains. It is also applied to food industry, health products, dietary supplements, cosmetics, food additives (colorings, sweet taste, etc.), and flavors and fragrances industry.
