Ningbo exported 3,275 batch of cosmetics (37,200 tons) in 2012, worth US$57,191,000 (equivalent to over 350 million yuan), up 8.95 percent, 31.70 percent and 21.03 percent on year-on-year basis. The products are exported to 78 countries and regions. The top importers (over US$1million) are the United States, the United Kingdom, China's Hong Kong, Australia, Brazil and Canada, with total importing volume accounting for 63.70 percent of the total figure.

In the face of the negative impact of the global economic slowdown in recent years, Ningbo Inspection and Quarantine Bureau took a series of measures to help local cosmetics exporters to secure more orders amid the gloomy global market. Through field research, they helped local exporters to discover problems and weakness in the inspection and supervision section. By stepping up regulations on the inspection and quarantine of exporting cosmetics, Ningbo Inspection and Quarantine Bureau offered training programs for the inspecting departments in local companies. They required registration of export of cosmetics production enterprises and carry out s risk factor surveillance to export cosmetics, and strengthen inspection and quarantine on the raw material of cosmetics manufacturers. They also offered training to working staff in the companies. These measures were proved effective in enhancing the sense of responsibility and management level. After four years of effort, Ningbo's cosmetics export saw the momentum of rapid growth. The exporting volume soared from US$10 million in 2009 to over US$5700 million in 2012.
