Modern agriculture cultivated“Strawhat Engineers”

Huang Xinshan, a farmer who stopped his study after junior high and has raised spotted deer for eleven years in Beilun, recently got the title of "Strawhat Engineer". Huang said:"I received so little education,all I have is experience. I can't believe I can have this title, now I can brag to others."

    In spite of education background and age, there were 32 agricultural technicians got the title of "Strawhat Engineer". Among them, some are good at planting fruits and running agritainment who have a lot of practical experience; some are generation after 80s who have high degree certificate and rich theoretical knowledge. "Strawhat Engineer" refers to talents who got agriculturally practical technical titles, and this was the first time to hold the awards ceremony in Beilun.

  “This title used to award to agronomists,and only open to graduates from technical secondary schools and junior colleges. But now, "Strawhat Engineer are open to all the agricultural technicians as long as you are experienced enough." the manager said. There are more than 7500 agricultural technicians in Beilun. With the development of modern agriculture, more people emerges to take lead in planation, breeding and other areas. Unlike the traditional farmers, these people usually have had professional training, and are equipped with theoretical knowledge and have passion for agricultural researches, so they are able to carry out scientific researches independently. In this activity, over a hundred people applied for the award and 32 won it after experts’ evaluation.

     We need more "Strawhat Engineers", said an official from Agriculture and Forestry Bureau. The development of modern agriculture needs both technology and talents, and the cultivation and introduction of talents becomes a challenge. To make things easier, there are more and more young people who choose agriculture as career, and they are the hope of modern agriculture.
