Planning for Ningbo-Zhoushan Port approved

Recently, the Ministry of Transport and Zhejiang Provincial Government approved the "general planning of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port (2014-2030)". In the future, the port will focus on the development of four core areas.
According to the plan, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is a major port as well as an important hub for comprehensive transportation in China. As an important part of the Shanghai International Shipping Center, it is the core carrier to provide services for the Yangzte River Economic Belt and facilitate the construction of the river-sea transportation center in Zhoushan. It is also an important base for the marine economic development demonstration zone in Zhejiang Province and the construction of the Zhoushan islands new zone, and an important support for the economic and social development of Ningbo and Zhoushan.
In terms of port and shoreline development, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port will focus on the transit of bulk energy products and raw materials and the container transport. By actively developing the functions of modern logistics, shipping services, port industries, bonded trade,
strategic storage and tourist transport, it will be built as a modern comprehensive port featuring proper playout, adequate capacity, complete functions, security and environment-friendliness, and coordinated port-city development. The planned port shoreline is 550 kilometers long, with 236 kilometers having been utilized.
Recently, the cargo throughput of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has exceeded 900 million tons. The Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan passage construction, the most complete, deepest and most covering plan so far in Zhejiang Province, has also been approved by the provincial government. In addition, as an important support for the port, the Jinhua-Ningbo railroad has been started in Ningbo. The railroad will soon extend to Zhoushan, ending the city’s history of having no railroads. According to experts, the approval of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and the Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan passage construction will definitely bring more strategic opportunities for Ningbo in its docking with such national strategies as the “one belt one road” and the Yangtze River Belt construction, building the new open economic pattern, and accelerating the forming of new economic growth poles.
