Students from Class 402 of the Second Experimental Primary School in Jiangdong District were reading books in the Qihang Bookshop attached to Xinhua Bookstore. In September this year, the first campus branch of Xinhua Bookstore was opened in the school.

One evening of 2010, September 28, Ningbo Compassion Union received a letter from Chen Jun Yan, a student of Ningbo TianYi Technical College majored in nursing.
It said:
“我叫黄佳宁，今年9岁，是宁海县桥头胡街道汶溪周村人，现读小学，今年2月4日，被鄞州人民医院确诊急性白血病。后在鄞州人民医院住院7个多月。医生建议：前期治疗良好，最好马上去杭州做骨髓移植手术，医药费大概还需要30万元。可是我们这个贫困家庭，根本承受不了这笔巨款，前期治疗已花去26万多元，全靠政府部门的救助及亲朋好友借钱。
