Thousands of high school pupils and their parents are expected to visit The University of Nottingham Ningbo China on Sunday 8 April to sample life and studies at the unique UK university campus in China.

The University opens its doors once a year to visitors who want to find out more about its degree programmes and career paths for its graduates.

Individuals have the opportunity to tour the attractive park-like campus and many of its world-class facilities, including its library, and meet lecturers and tutors at the annual Open Day.

Leading academics give talks on a range of topics, from international business strategy to the world of artificial intelligence, to give students a taste of the exciting content they can expect to cover on The University of Nottingham’s degree courses delivered here in China.

This year many final-year high school pupils have reserved seats to participate in interactive seminars, including French for beginners and a primer on economic growth.

The 2012 Open Day has also attracted potential employers, with representatives from global organisations available to speak to potential students about future career opportunities available for the University’s graduates.

A special highlight this year will be a welcome address by the University’s Provost and CEO, Professor Nick Miles, in the auditorium at 9am. He will share information about the international quality assurance processes, international study opportunities and other features that ensure that students receive a high quality British education.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors, in 2004. All degree programmes are delivered in English and all degrees are awarded by The University of Nottingham (UK).

Mrs Joan Chen, Communications and Marketing Manager at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China, said: “At our Open Day you can learn more about the subjects you are interested in studying as well as the large range of careers available to our graduates.

“You have the opportunity to meet lecturers and sit in on teaching sessions to get a feel for what it might be like to study here,” she said.

Recruitment and Admissions team members will be on hand to give applicants advice on entry requirements and the application process.

Mrs Chen said: “An international university experience isn’t just about studying. On Sunday, you can meet current students to ask them questions about what life is like here at our vibrant campus.

“Student societies will have displays to show you more about the many exciting student societies and all the fun activities and facilities available for use in leisure time. You will be able to tour a student residence and sample food on campus,” she said.

Mrs Chen noted: “Most of our students are from China, but we also have several hundred students from elsewhere. We have students from Brazil, Panama, the US, Tanzania, Russia and South Korea, among the many nations represented at our international campus.”

Studying for a UK degree at a university in China where all programmes are delivered in English is a highly attractive proposition for individuals looking to add an international dimension to their overall university experience.

The fees at The University of Nottingham Ningbo China are in line with UK levels, however living costs are generally lower in China, which means students who want to manage their finances can still enjoy a comfortable lifestyle.

Last year more than 1,000 high school pupils and their parents visited The University of Nottingham Ningbo China on its Open Day.

This year, interest has been stronger than ever, with many pupils booking early for taster sessions, said Mrs Chen, who added that the University expects more than 2,000 visitors on April 8.

The University has several restaurants and a canteen, on its UK-style High Street, that will be open to the public on Open Day. Parking will be available on campus.
