Ningbo promotes smart education

It is learned from the International Smart Education Summit held in Ningbo on September 13 that Ningbo has invested over 800 million yuan to promote education informationization.

The education informationization project in Ningbo has started since 2002. It initiated the standard for digitalized campus construction with 45 indicators in the five aspects as hardware facilities, software development, resources construction, teaching staff and practical application, and the hardware and software environment and application level of all the schools in Ningbo have witnessed substantial progress. According to statistics, so far, there are over 400 digitalized schools in Ningbo. With all the schools equipped with campus network and all the classrooms equipped with multimedia, Ningbo has realized a high-level balanced development for education informationization.

In the following three years, Ningbo will continue to complete "one gateway, three platforms and five systems". Vice-mayor Zhang Minghua said in his speech delivered at the forum that Ningbo will achieve three major innovations in the field of smart education.

Firstly, the technological innovation. By making full use of such emerging technologies as voice platforms and massive internet data, the smart education aims to integrate and share the quality education resources from the whole city or even the whole country. The new intelligent education and teaching environment and the public service platforms will provide students and the public with comprehensive, intelligent and customized quality education services with the help of the massive data technology.

Secondly, the model innovation. By giving full play to the role of the emerging technologies in education and teaching, the smart education will break the boundary of schools so that an information exchange platform between schools, households, communities, teachers, parents and students can be established. The management system for lifelong learning will be constructed ranging from kindergartens to universities for the aged. By integrating the featured resources and sharing quality resources, the smart education endeavors to realize the learning for everyone at any time and at any place as is demanded.

Thirdly, the system innovation. Unlike the traditional way of government-funded education, the smart education will establish the government-led and enterprises-centered system. A special company will be established by the municipal government to run the business. By setting up the cooperation and incentive mechanism, the company will encourage various kinds of forces to invest in smart education construction.
