It was learned from the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration on April 9 that in the first quarter of this year, the freight volume of the Ningbo section of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal exceeded 1 million tons, reaching 1,277,500 tons, new highs over the same period in history.
Since the beginning of this year, the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal cargo has witnessed a strong performance. In particular, the preferential policy of staying in Ningbo for the New Year has reduced the rest and stagnation time of related ships. After the regular 16-day suspension and maintenance work during the Spring Festival, the large capacity was quickly restored. In the first quarter of this year, the number of up-ships from Ningbo to Shaoxing reached 2,329 and the number of down-ships reached 2,365, an increase of 16.45% and 22.16% year-on-year respectively.
"The increase in the number of ships puts forward higher requirements for navigation efficiency. In order to improve
navigation efficiency, Zhejiang Ship Gate APP'Zhezhatong' has been officially launched.
The function of'‘Maritime WhiteList’ is very practical. Ships included in the "whitelist" can go through various gate procedures on their mobile phones, which is convenient and fast." said a law enforcement officer of the Maritime Affairs Department of Ningbo Sanjiangkou.
The increase of ships has also brought about an increase in the volume of cargo transportation. Data show that in the first quarter of this year, the coal transportation volume of the Ningbo section of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal was nearly 620,000 tons, which was basically the same as the same period last year; the sand transportation volume increased significantly, reaching 581,900 tons, an increase of about 85.5% over the same period last year, which guarantees the infrastructure projects in the two places. In addition, due to the growth of domestic trade demand and the growth of export containers from river-sea combined transport, the inland container throughput of Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal also rose sharply to 1,470 TEUs in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 430.68%.
Since last year, with the official launch of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal's river-sea combined transport ship and the successful navigation of inland river container ships, the cargo throughput of the Ningbo section of the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal has gradually got rid of the impact of the epidemic and has continued to grow. The person in charge of the maritime department said that they will continue to cooperate with ship locks, transportation, and other departments to further improve the supervision services of inland river vessels in the Hangzhou-Ningbo Canal, and promote key tasks such as ship appearance improvement, ship pollution prevention supervision and crew quality improvement, and guard the canal safety and help local economic development
