Sales of Watermelon Exceeds 350 Tons Per Day on Average in Ningbo

Due to the high temperature Ningbo has suffered for several days, watermelons, the fruit with heat-dispersing function, has sold quite well since the height of summer. According to relevant statistics, the sales of watermelons in Ningbo fruit wholesale market exceeded 350 tons per day on average, increasing by 30% compared with weeks ago, with its average price plunging to a new low in the past three years.

Experts analyzed that the main watermelon target markets in the south were caught in continuous rainstorms, causing a slump in demand and price while watermelons in major producing areas had turning ripe. Up to July 17^th, the average price in the main producing areas has dropped to 0.88 yuan per kilogram by 50% compared with last month. The price would remain low for the next month and wouldn’t grow until the end of August. In this case, citizens could still enjoy yummy watermelons for a favorable price.

    To meet citizens’ demand of watermelon, officials in Ningbo fruit wholesale market took an active action to expand channels to transport watermelons from Jilin, Heilongjiang, Anhui and Shandong. Thus, watermelon ownership in the wholesale market has surpassed 300 tons up to now. And 8 parking spaces were added for trailers and a site of over 1,000sq.m. was arranged for watermelon transaction
