The 2015 Ningbo Science and Technology Week was officially launched on May 17. Over 40 special science publicity activities will be held during the week, including a competition for inventions and innovations, a knowledge contest, and the lecture tours for intellectual property.
Since 2001, when the activity was held for the first time, the Science and Technology Week has been built as an important platform for exhibiting charms of technology and publicizing science, which is well received by the citizens. The preferential policies have provided an agreeable environment for the young. With the establishment of such platforms as "venture space", "business caf¨¦", "venture garden for undergraduates", the mass venture linkage is taking shape in Ningbo now. Progress has also been made in idea collection and entrepreneurial cultivation, facilitating the business ventures for the young.
The government approved four venture spaces and five venture service centers last month to provide more chances for the young with dream, enthusiasm and knowledge. In the future, each district or county in Ningbo will possess at least a venture space or venture service center, jointly sponsored by enterprises, the financial department and the local government, thus forming a mass venture system with strong Ningbo characteristics

Ningbo to build as a strategic pivot city

At present, China is advancing the "one belt, one road" strategy and the Yangtze River Economic Belt strategy, providing new chances and platforms for the major cities to deepen the opening to the outside world and speed up economic transformation. As an important port city in the southeast coastal area of China, the economic center of the south Yangtze River Delta area and one of the starting ports of ancient silk road on the sea, Ningbo has the responsibilities and positive actions to be connected to "one belt, one road" strategy and the Yangtze River Economic Belt strategy. Since 2014, Ningbo has seized the opportunity to accelerate the construction of the modern international port city, as part of its blue dream.

Ningbo is located in the intersection of the Silk Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, as well as the core area of marine economic development demonstration zone in Zhejiang Province. In recent years, Ningbo has accelerated the transformation from a transportation port to a trade logistics port, deepened the opening-up and cooperation, enhanced the level of urban internationalization, and established very close trade relations with countries along the "one belt, one road" way and the major cities along the Yangtze River. In terms of navigation, Ningbo Port has now 102 berths with the DWT of over 10,000 tons and 228 container routes, and has established navigation relationship with over 600 ports in over 100 countries and regions.

In 2014, the cargo throughput of Ningbo Port reached 526 million tons, and the container throughput reached 18.7 million TEUs, ranking No.4 and No.5 respectively in the world. In recent years, with the rapid development of the bulk commodity trade and shipping services, the export container price index issued by Ningbo Shipping Exchange has become an important part of the comprehensive index of the Silk Road on the sea. With regard to trade, Ningbo will have business with the outside world. Always as an important business port in China, Ningbo has greatly accelerated its foreign trade since China's reform and opening-up to the outside world. In 2014, the total import and export volume of Ningbo Port reached US$218.6 billion, including US$104.7 for foreign trade, ranking No.8 among all the cities in China. Ningbo has established business and trade relations with 218 countries or regions in the world, and its investment volume and trade volume with the "one belt, one road" countries account for 3.6% and 2.5% of those of the whole country respectively.
