Xiangshan released plan for island protection and development

Recently, the implement plan of Xiangshan for the protection and development of important islands of Zhejiang was officially released. The plan specifies the ecological protection and industrial development of the 10 provincial-level islands in Xiangshan County: Nantian, Taotang, Hua'ao, Tantou, Dongmen, Duimianshan, Beiyushan, Pingfengshan and Haishan Island.
The 10 islands have very good vegetation, varied geographical shapes, beautiful landscape, and rich resources of sea food, coastlines, harbors, marshes and beaches. Of the islands, Tantou Mountain and Hua'ao are distinct for their beaches and stone forests. Beiyushan and Nanjiushan have rich fishing resources and unique ecological systems. Nantian Island and Gaotang Island are new the Ningbo-Zhoushan international main channel, with 5-10-meter deep water coastal lines and great potential for port-oriented industry and freight transfer, all these being rare resources in the south of the Ningbo-Zhoushan port. The port area on Nantian Island is quite special for its depth of the coastal line as great as over 10 meters, good for two 50,000-tonnage berths, one 300,000-tonnage berth, one 100,000-tonnage berth. The island also has rich resources of marshes. Nantian Island and Taotang Island have about 50,000 mu of neritic marches. In addition, The islands also have rich resources of wind and tidal energies.
According to the plan of the implement plan, the 10 islands of Xiangshan should divided into four categories according to their designed functions of clean energies, coastal recreation, modern fishing and marine ecology. By 2015, highly efficient, comprehensive and standardized management systems should be basically established for the development of the ten islands. Their leading role should be notably promoted so that the development should be a new growth point for the comprehensive development of the marine experimental zone in Xiangshan.
