Ningbo’s air quality improves

The ozone is the key factor that affects the air quality of Ningbo. In 2019, the nine districts or counties of Ningbo, Haishu District, Yinzhou District, Zhenhai District, Beilun District, the High-tech Zone, Fenghua District, Ninghai County, Xiangshan County and Daxie Development Zone, met the standard for the national class Ⅱ.

In 2019, the three areas in Ningbo with the best air quality are Xiangshan County, Daxie Development Zone and Ninghai County, and the three areas with the relatively worse air quality are Cixi County, Yuyao County and Jiangbei District.

According to the report, in 2019, the good and excellent air quality rate of the 14 districts, zones or counties of Ningbo was between 77.3% and 95.1%, with the average of 86.7%. To be specific, the days with excellent air quality accounted fro 31.8%,

and those with good air quality accounted for 54.9%. As for the central downtown area, the comprehensive air quality index of 2019 stood at 3.77, and the good and excellent air quality rate was 87.1%, without any heavy-pollution days.

“The ozone is very key factory that affects the air quality of Ningbo.” said an expert from Ningbo Ecological Environment Bureau. In 2019, the number of the days with the substandard average concentration of zone, the No.1 pollutants of air quality, of the central urban area was 32 days, accounting 68.1% of the days with pollution, exceeding the number of days with excessive PM2.5. The average zone concentrate of the 14 areas of Ningbo is 157 micrograms per cubic meter. The nine areas (including Haishu District, Yinzhou District, Zhenhai District, Beilun District, the High-tech Zone, Fenghua District, Ninghai County, Xiangshan County and Daxie Development Zone) met the standard for the national class Ⅱ. To be specific, the zone concentration of Yuyao County, Cixi County and Jiangbei District was the highest, followed by that of the central urban area, and Xiangshan County had the lowest concentration.

What is the air quality index of each area in Ningbo like? The report shows that among the 14 areas, in 2019, the three areas with the best air quality were Xiangshan County, Daxie Development Zone and Ninghai County, while the three areas with the worst air quality were Cixi County, Yuyao County and Jiangbei District. The comprehensive air quality index ranged from 2.96 to 4.04, with the lowest in Xiangshan County and the highest in Cixi County, and the average index is 3.65.

“In 2019, the average concentration of PM2.5 in Ningbo was 29 micrograms per cubic meter, down by 6.5% over the previous year, and met the standard of national Class Ⅱ for the first time.” said a person in charge from the Ecological Environment Bureau. In 2019, China continued to strengthen its adjustment of the energy structure and promotion of industrial transformation by increasing the proportion of new energy, thus the average concentration of PM2.5 in Zhejiang Province witnessed an overall declining trend, and Ningbo was no exception. In addition, with the in-depth implementation of the “three-year action plan for blue sky” in Ningbo, the special rectification of such particulate matters as dust has been effective. According to the related reports, the concentration of PM2.5 in the 14 areas of Ningbo ranged from 23 micrograms per cubic meter to 35 micrograms per cubic meter, with the lowest level in Daxie Development Zone and the highest in Cixi County and Yuyao County.

According to the same person in charge, in terms of seasons, the days with higher PM2.5 concentration accounted for 27.7% of the whole year, mainly in January, February and December. Then in terms of areas, the PM2.5 concentrate reached the highest in the Yuyao County and Cixi County in the northwestern area, that of the eastern or southern areas was the lowest, while that of the central urban area was intermediate
