The Ningbo Foreign Trade Transcript 2023 was released on January 16th. According to statistics from Ningbo Customs, the total import and export volume of Ningbo reached 1.28 trillion yuan in 2023, up 0.9% year-on-year. Among them, the export value reaches about 830 billion yuan, up 0.7%; The import value amounts about 450 billion yuan, up 1.1%.

"Overall, Ningbo's foreign trade has reached a new high on a high base, with a qualitative improvement in growth momentum, achieving the goal of promoting stability and improving quality. Especially since the third quarter of last year, there has been a clear positive trend, with monthly import and export volume achieving year-on-year growth for five consecutive months." said the person in charge of Ningbo Customs.

The past year has witnessed Ningbo's active import and export momentum. In 2023, the export value of high value-added electromechanical products exceeded 470 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.3%, accounting for 56.8% of the total export volume. Among them, the export value of household appliances and automobiles increased by 12.2% and 32.9% year-on-year, respectively; Among the "New Three Products", the export value of solar cells and lithium-ion batteries increased by 5.4% and 27% year-on-year, respectively.

During the same period, with the continuous recovery of domestic demand, the import scale of bulk commodities and livelihood commodities has orderly expanded. In 2023, Ningbo imported nearly 84 billion yuan of bulk commodities, a year-on-year increase of 26.2%; The import of consumer goods reached nearly 45 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%. Among them, the import volume of passenger cars and edible aquatic products increased by 30% and 130% respectively.

From the perspective of business entities, private enterprises’ major role 

has been enhanced. Last year, the import and export volume of private enterprises in Ningbo exceeded 960 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%, accounting for 75.4% of the total import and export volume of Ningbo during the same period, an increase of 2.5 percentage points from 2022.

From the perspective of trading partners, diverse and stable economic and trade relations are constantly expanding. In 2023, Ningbo's import and export volume to ASEAN, the third largest trading partner, exceeded 155 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4%; The import and export volume of the other 14 member countries of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) exceeded 330 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%; The import and export volume to Central and Eastern European countries exceeded 50 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12%
