Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang province will lend support to 11 counties of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Southwest China's Sichuan province.

The 11 counties are: Zhaojue county, Jinyang county, Ganluo county, Yuexi county, Xide county, Butuo county, Puge county, Yanyuan county, Meigu county, Leibo county and Muli Tibetan autonomous county.

These counties have been paired with Ningbo under the east-west poverty relief program launched by the central government, which sees more prosperous provinces and municipalities in East China lend support to underdeveloped regions in the country.

Ningbo will help the counties achieve economic growth by implementing measures including boosting the exchanges between cadres and talents, strengthening industrial cooperation and channeling more social capital to the region.

Liangshan prefecture is the largest inhabited area of the Yi nationality in China. Located in the southwest of Sichuan province, it covers an area of 60,400 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 2 cities and 15 counties, of which 10 counties are inhabited by the Yi nationality.

Liangshan has a total population of 5.3096 million, of which the Yi people account for 53.89 percent. Muli county is one of the only two Tibetan autonomous counties in the nation.

The prefecture has abundant tourism resources including 11 4A national scenic spots such as Luoji Mountain, Lugu Lake and the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
