According to Ningbo Environmental Protection Bureau, the air quality in Ningbo during the coming Spring Festival will be fine on the whole. But due to fireworks, there will be air pollution during a certain period of time in certain places.

Environment Monitoring Center of Ningbo and the meteorological station predict that there will be rain and snow from February 8th to 11th due to the cold air and the air quality will be fine. On February 12th, the weather will be sunny. But because of the rain in the previous days, relative humidity of air will be high and pollutants may accumulate and thus polluting the air. Therefore, from February 12th to 14th, the air quality will be bad. On February 15th, the diffusion capacity of air will be improved and the air quality will be fine.

The Environment Monitoring Center of Ningbo says that there will be air pollution during a certain period of time in certain places during the 2013 Spring Festival. According to the previous monitoring results, from 20:00 to 24:00 on the New Year’s Eve, a large number of fireworks are set off, which leads to the deterioration of air quality. From 5 a.m. to10 a.m. on the fifth day of the lunar year, people set off fireworks hoping to get luck and wealth, so air will be polluted, too. Experts say fireworks bring about much smoke and sulfur dioxide which lead to serious air pollution.

On February 5th, Environmental Protection Bureau announced Proposal on Having a Low-carbon New Year. It suggests that people spend a green and low-carbon New Year by setting off fewer or no fireworks. Large fireworks that are harmful are not advocated and they should be replaced by electronic fireworks, instead. Meanwhile, the Bureau also encourages people to have green transportation, such as walking, bicycling and taking a bus.
