Recently, a train carrying 116 standard boxes (container) of imported Russian timber entered Beilun Port Area and was transported to Taicang, Jiangsu Province via the Yangtze River branch line of Ningbo Ocean Shipping Company. This marks the handshake between the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an, and the eastern departure port of the "Maritime Silk Road" Ningbo through the sea-rail intermodal train for the first time. The latest information shows that in the first quarter of 2019, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed a total of 175,000 TEUs of container sea-rail combined transport, an increase of 45.4% over the same period last year.

Since the beginning of 2019, Ningbo has actively docked the important links of the “Belt and Road” in the central and western regions, and the multimodal transport has achieved interconnection. The railway line from Xi'an to Ningbo is long and the freight rate is high. Most of the imported timber in Xi'an area is transported to the coastal areas through road trailers. Ningbo Zhoushan Port actively communicates with the National Railway Group and cooperates with China Merchants Group to open the sea-rail intermodal train from Xi'an to Ningbo. The train will effectively link the China-European“Chang’an” train, which will help to further enlarge the brand effect of Ningbo Zhoushan Port sea-rail combined transport, and promote the construction of Ningbo Zhoushan intermodal logistics inter-route and the sea-rail intermodal international logistics channel. Trains for Jiangxi, Anhui, Hubei and other key areas will be increased. In the first quarter, the volume of sea-rail combined transport business in Jiangxi reached 27,836 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 58.9%, a record high in the quarter.

With the help of the province's port integration strategy, we will deeply cultivate the provincial market. On January 11th, the “Huzhou-Ningbo Zhoushan Port” sea-rail intermodal train was successfully launched, becoming the second sea-rail train after Huzhou’s “Changxingnan-Ningbo Zhoushan Port”. On March 1st, the “Qianqing-Ningbo Zhoushan Port” sea-rail combined transport line was opened, the third daily train in Hangzhou and Shaoxing area
