CPI increases by 1.3% for March

According to the newly released statistics for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Ningbo in March by the Ningbo Investigation Team of the State Administration of Statistics, Ningbo's CPI in March increased by 1.3% over the same period of last year. To be specific, the food prices decreased by 2.2% while the non-food prices increased by 2.6%, and the prices of consumers' goods increased by 0.3% while those of services increased by 2.9%. For the first three months, the CPI increased by 1.6% over the same period of last year.

Compared with the previous month, the CPI of March dropped by 0.5%. Specifically speaking, the food prices dropped by 2.8% while the non-food prices remained almost the same, and the prices for the consumers' goods dropped by 1.0% while those of services rose by 0.2%.

In terms of the categories, seven of the eight categories witnessed price rise and only one saw price decrease. The food prices decreased by 2.2%, including a 29.4% drop for vegetables, a 0.7% drop for meat, a 4.6% drop for eggs and a 3.3% increase for aquatic products. Among the other seven categories, the top three went to medical care, housing and education, culture & entertainment, with

the increase rates of 4.6%, 3.7% and 2.6% respectively. The other four categories, traffic & communications, other products and services, clothing, and articles or services for daily use, rose by 2.3%, 2.0%, 1.1% and 0.5% respectively over the same period of last year.

Compared with February, only two of the eight categories saw increase of prices. The prices for both housing and medical care increased by 0.7% over the previous month. While those for food, education, culture & entertainment, clothing, articles and services for daily use, traffic and communications, other products & services dropped by 1.9%, 0.9%, 0.6%, 0.2%, 0.2% and 0.1% respectively.
