Exhibition of intangible cultural heritages and traditional culture launched

The opening ceremony of the Academic Exhibition of Ningbo Intangible Cultural Heritages and Traditional Culture was held in the Yangfan Art Museum on August 23. Nearly 80 Ningbo intangible cultural heritage works with exquisite pattern and exquisite workmanship on display at the exhibition attracted the attention of citizens.

Reportedly, the intangible cultural heritage works on display include both those by representative inheritors of national intangible cultural heritage items and those by ordinary cultural workers. In the form of bone-wood inlay, clay gold-color painting, Yue Kiln celadon, bamboo root carving, porcelain and sculpture, the exhibits aim to spread the traditional culture of Ningbo.

The inheritance of intangible cultural heritage is inseparable from the representative inheritors. Zhou Bingyi, the representative inheritor of Xiangshan bamboo root carving, also came to the scene. Like other intangible cultural heritage inheritors, he injected persistence

into his works. As representatives of his 40 years’ efforts and innovation, some of his original works of bamboo root carving have been permanently collected by the National Museum. “As an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, I should continue to innovate on the basis of inheritance, achieve the unity of inheritance, innovation and development, give the general public opportunities to contact and understand intangible cultural heritage, and make this intangible cultural heritage item ‘live’.” said Zhou Bingyi.

The students of Huizhen Academy came to the exhibition to feel the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage exhibits. Attracted by the intangible cultural heritage works such as bone-wood inlay, mud gold-color painting and bamboo root carving in the exhibition area, they kept asking questions to teachers and the present works makers to understand related knowledge.

“This exhibition is worth visiting and has a special sense of experience, as these intangible cultural heritage items with Ningbo characteristics are the ‘spiritual home’ of all Ningbo people. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 1,200th anniversary of the construction of Ningbo. With the intangible cultural heritage as the main line, the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage tell their stories and interact with the public by means of this exhibition, so that people can have a better understanding of the inheritors and the stories behind them. It is a good exploration to protect and inherit intangible cultural heritage.” said a person in charge of the event.

This exhibition, open for free, will last until September 15
