Ningbo plans to construct Meishan New Area

On the Fourth Session of the 12th Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress on the morning of January 24th in Hangzhou, Li Qiang, the Governor, made a report of government work. In the work report, it is clear that Zhejiang will support the construction of Ningbo’s Meishan New Area.
According to the deployment of Zhejiang Provincial Government and Ningbo Municipal Government, as well as the thirteenth Five-Year Plan, Ningbo ran a study on Meishan New Area. Considering the internal and external environment, regional resources and development potential, the preliminary plan of Meishan New Area is as follows. It will seize the strategic opportunities of “One Belt and One Road” and the Yangtze River Economic Belt. By improving the innovation ability and the level of opening up as the main line with the international, high-end and ecological development as the orientation, the construction of Meishan New Area will combine the development of both marine economy and land economy, strengthen the structural reform of supply, and enhance the driving force of innovation, industrial competitiveness and opening influence. Ningbo will strive to build Meishan New Area into the core functional area in Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan area, demonstration zone of international trade and economic cooperation, advanced manufacturing industry cluster district, international marine science and technology innovation center and international costal ecological and livable city.
According to the functional orientation of Meishan New Area, Ningbo with promote its strategic construction from four aspects under the theme of “opening, innovation and intelligent manufacturing”. Firstly, Meishan New Area will actively participate in the construction of “One Belt and One Road” and the Yangtze River Economic Belt in order to accelerate the construction of the international development platform, the core functional area in Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan area and demonstration zone of international trade and economic cooperation. Secondly, Meishan New Area will promote the construction of a high level featured town and accelerate the cultivation of clusters of leading industries to build itself into an advanced manufacturing industry cluster district. Thirdly, Meishan New Area will accelerate the gathering of high-end innovative resources at home and abroad to construct the international marine science and technology innovation center. Fourthly, Meishan New Area will adhere to the integration development of people and city, enhance the city’s comprehensive service functions and strive to build an international coastal ecological and livable city.
On the afternoon of January 24th, Hua Wei, representative of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, made a speech on the plenary meeting of Ningbo that the plan of constructing Meishan New Area is an important carrier to further implement the strategies of “One Belt and One Road” and the Yangtze River Economic Belt, as well as an important measure for Ningbo to play a good role as a strategic city. Hua suggested that Zhejiang should include Meishan New Area into the thirteenth Five-Year Plan of Zhejiang Province and upgrade Ningbo Meishan New Area as a national new area. He said Zhejiang should strengthen the guidance on the whole process of building Meishan New Area, set a clear development orientation, focus on the key aspects and give support in major reform, factor supply and other areas.
