Hybrid cherries enrich villagers

News from Ningbo Association for Science and Technology showed that the hybrid cherries introduced from Zhejiang University born greater cherries after several years of experiment in some poverty alleviation bases, and were selling at a high price of 100 yuan per kilo.
Cherry trees in Meibei Village of Ninghai County are in full bearing, and all these 6,000 some trees are introduced by Prof. Zhang Fang of Zhejiang University. This kind of hybrid cherry tree was planted in several places, with 50 mu in Yaojiangyuan Cherry Base of Yuyao, 60 mu in Meida Cherry Base of Ninghai County, and 150 mu in the cherry garden in Yinzhou District. Prof. Zhang and his team instructed the planting and cultivating processes and as a result, the cherries are much bigger and more delicious than the normal ones.
It is learned that cherries are generally divided into two types: the first type is introduced from Europe and the USA and is suitable for planting in low-temperature regions, and the second type is Chinese local, small in size and acid in taste, which is well-adapted to the weather of southern areas. Prof. Zhang also remarked that the hybrid cherry tree is the mutation of Chinese cherry, yet the former has thinner peels and is juicier. In addition, the former has longer shelf life and is also much expensive than other normal cherries.
Nowadays, this kind hybrid cherry has become a gold mine for villagers. Last year, the cherries have brought a total income of 400,000 yuan to the villagers of Rangxian Village in Yuyao, which was a huge increase comparing to the premier several thousand yuan a year.
