Ten more new tourism festivals to be created

It is learned from the 2013 Ningbo Tourist Market Work Conference that in 2013 Ningbo will cultivate ten more new tourism festivals with market potential and profit by encouraging and innovating the model of festivals by society and festivals by enterprises. In terms of tourism marketing, Ningbo will accelerate the integration of all kinds of resources and platforms, strengthen the guidance for the tourism market, carry out regular market exchanges, strengthen professional training and actively implement reform and innovation. In terms of tourism festivals, Ningbo will standardize and improve the existing festivals hosted by the related tourism departments, and in the meanwhile encourage and innovate the new model of festival celebrating to create 10 to 15 new festivals. In addition, Ningbo will strengthen the planning and design of the tourism promotion materials, and increase the diversity of the materials to include such feature promotion products as tourism guides, post cards and tourist books. At the same time, the smart tourism project will continue to be promoted. By deepening cooperation with such major tourism websites as Ctrip and Lvmama, it will research and develop new tourism products with potential market

Argentine tango troupe to perform in Ningbo

Argentinean tango troupe, Tango Desire Company, will perform at the Ningbo Grand Theatre on January 13.

Tango is a national symbol of Argentina. The tango performed by the Argentine Desire Tango Company is well known for its sensual, intense, vigorous, and sophisticated dancing step. The performers are quite adept at capturing the sensuality and charm of the tango dance. Six superb dancers, five musicians and two first-class singers will present classic tangos including "Argentina, do not cry for me," and "Libertango".

Tango originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires, but it soon became popular throughout society and quickly spread to New York, London and Paris and evolved into a stylish social events. The famous Argentine tango composer, Ástor Pantaleón Piazzolla, composed more than 300 tango music including "Farewell, Nonino" and "Libertango" and "The Rough Dancer and the Cyclical Night". He incorporated classical techniques with national elements and made tango a performing art rich in humanistic spirit.

Ningbo commended for protection of intangible cultural heritages

In recent years, Ningbo has made new progress in the census and protection of intangible cultural heritages. The "Ningbo Model" of the census of intangible cultural heritages with the concerted efforts of the village, the town and the city has been established and popularized throughout the country.  At present, the city has 171 intangible cultural heritages (21 national-level ones and 49 provincial-level ones), 255 heritors of intangible cultural heritages (5 national-level ones and 40 provincial-level ones, and 208 protection organizations (including 10 provincial-level organizations. Xiangshan Fishing Cultural and Ecological Protection Zone was entitled a national-level protection zone by the Ministry of Culture. Ningbo is now in the front rank of China in the work of intangible cultural heritages.

The other day, Ningbo Municipal Press and Publication Administration was honored as "Advanced Unit in the Work of Application of Human Intangible Cultural Heritages and National-level Intangible Cultural Heritages by Zhejiang Provincial Government Wang Zhiming, Wu Jian, Lu Weiguo and Hu Weihua were commended.

Local opera troupe celebrates 60 founding anniversary with six classics

Actors in Ningbo Yongju opera troupe were busy in the rehearsals for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the troupe. According to the troupe leaders, six classic plays, including the famous "Wife in Hock", will be staged in Ningbo's Shaw Theatre from November 20 to December 2.

After a careful selection, the opera troupe chose and three traditional plays and three award-winning modern plays, including "Half-scissors", "Wife in Hock", "Ningbo Brothers" and "The Visit”.

"Wife in Hock" is a milestone of the Yongju Opera. Many viewers were moved by its profound cultural connotations and elaborate tragic style. It has been six years since the last performance of "Wife in Hock" in Ningbo, said Wang Jinwen, a famed Yongju Opera artist.

Zilinfang Art Gallery, a gallery of Ningbo Bone-wood Inlaying Craft

At the crossroads of South Tiantong Road and Middle Rili Road in Yinzhou is a 3-storey building, Zilinfang Art Gallery, a private museum of Chen Mingwei, Chinese Master of Arts and Crafts, Inheritor of Ningbo Bone-wood Inlaying Craft and Director of Ningbo Arts and Crafts Association.

Ningbo Bone-wood Inlaying Craft is a traditional wood carving craft featured for inlaying techniques of using various materials like ivory, boxwood, annatto, rose wood, ox bone, mother-of-pearl, copper sheet, preserved stone, etc. This craft, unique with local culture, is mainly used in furniture, stationery and home utensils.

Zilinfang Art Gallery, covering an area of 4,000 square meters, opened on September 2008. It is said that all the doors of the exhibition halls in the gallery are made of rosewood. The doors and windows cost over 100 cubic meters of such precious wood.

In addition, the art gallery has a special hall for painting and calligraphic works and intangible cultural heritages. This hall is free of charge for calligraphers and painters to exhibit their works. In this hall, the procedures of Ningbo Bone-wood Inlaying Craft are also displayed.

Heritage Studio for Craft Masters established

The opening ceremony of the Heritage Studio for Craft Masters was held in Ningbo Polytechnic on November 25. Thirteen craft masters in Ningbo were invited to attend the ceremony, and four of them (including Chen Ai'e, color embroidery master, Guo Lingmei, sachet-making master, Hu Peifen, straw-hat making master and Zhu Yingdu, lime-carving master) signed agreements with the college to settle down in the studio.

It is said that the establishment of the studio will contribute directly to the flourishing of folk crafts and skills in the college. By taking college students as disciples, the masters can pass down their secrets and skills that have been accumulated in their life-long practices and contribute to the education and development of a group of blue-collar talents that are good at solving technical problems.
