Cixi sees closer trade ties with CEEC

Cixi, a county-level city in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, has seen increasingly closer trade links with Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) in recent years.

In the first four months of this year, Cixi's trade volume with CEEC surpassed 1.3 billion yuan ($200 million). Specifically, imports surged 48.3 percent year-on-year to 124 million yuan, while exports amounted to 1.206 billion yuan, up 20.36 percent year-on-year.

Numerous local private companies have benefited from closer China-CEEC ties under the Belt and Road Initiative. One such example is Ningbo Careline Electric Appliance Co Ltd. The company's exports of air fryers to Hungry and the Czech Republic achieved triple growth from January to April.

Zhang Qian, sales manager of the company, attributed this success to sustained R&D investment. He said that the company, as the world's largest ODM production base for air fryers, has spent more than 40 million yuan annually in R&D and that all its export have passed third-party certifications.

Ningbo Xiermei Kitchen Supplies Co Ltd, which established a business presence in CEEC 17 years ago, is also another example.

After years of efforts in market expansion, its exports of non-stick boilers to CEEC have accounted for 42 percent of the company's total sales. This year, the company plans to launch hundreds of new products in CEEC markets, said Zhou Shijie, the company's general manager.

In addition, a relatively complete vehicle and spare parts supply chain has formed in Cixi. Statistics show that the district exported over 20 million yuan worth of auto parts to CEEC, including Hungary and Slovakia, with a year-on-year increase of 61.76 percent
