Careers have to be planned

Published in : Ningbo Business, Latest News

Many times when I meet people, we discuss about career and making a good future. On the other hand I have to realize that for Chinese young people the start into a business career is not well prepared. When leaving school they have a certificate but  little knowledge about the “real world” out there.

A career is not a chain of lucky events, but much more the result of a carefully planning and knowing who you are and what you want.

Before you start looking for the right job you should think about yourself and make a value evaluation on yourself.

Your values are possibly the most important thing to consider when you're choosing a job . If you don't take your values into account when planning your career, there's a good chance you'll dislike your work and therefore not succeed in it. For example, someone who needs to have autonomy in his work would not be happy in a job where every action is decided by someone else.

There are two types of values: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic values are related to the work itself and what it contributes to society. Extrinsic values include external features, such as physical setting and earning potential. Value inventories will ask you to answer questions like the following:

  • Is a high salary important to you?
  • Is it important for your work to involve interacting with people?
  • Is it important for your work to make a contribution to society?
  • Is having a prestigious job important for you?

When deciding what field of job  to enter, you need to determine what skills you possess. You should look at what you're good at, as well as what you enjoy doing. You may be very adept at a particular skill, but despise every second you spend at it. Generally speaking, though, you usually enjoy what you do well.

While you're assessing your skills, you should also consider the time you are willing to spend on acquiring more advanced or new skills. A question you could ask yourself is this — if a career holds all the qualities I find appealing but it takes X years to prepare for it, would I be willing and able to make this time commitment?

Probably not and you might end up in a job just making the money you need and dreaming of the job you want.

So in most discussions we come to the same conclusion that for young Chinese people it is more important to make money than finding job satisfaction. This is also mostly based on the fact that many young people are the first generation which do not earn their living in farming or agriculture related jobs. It is part of the business culture development to learn that a job and career is related to the fact that you need to like what you are doing. Making money is important, but making money in a way that you feel happy and like to go to your job each day, is more than just a dream. When you realize it, you will make your career almost on its own.

Multiple-entry visas suspended

Published in : Ningbo Business, Latest News

Important information!!

Multiple-entry visas suspended

China has stopped issuing multiple-entry visas and slowed the processing time for single- and double-entry visas for foreigners in Hong Kong. According to travel agencies in the region, applicants are only being issued single-entry visas, with double-entry visas only being issued if airline tickets or detailed itinerary can be provided explaining why two entries are required during the same trip. The duration of stay for both single- and double-entry visas is 30 days.
It is also now being recommended to apply in advance of planned travel to the mainland, as processing times are slowing as well. Currently, a visa can take up to four days to process according to travel agencies in Hong Kong. The suspension, which appears to be both related to the upcoming Olympics as well as the ongoing political unrest in the nation’s western regions, took effect on March 28 and will last until October 17.
Chinese authorities are also said to be stepping up enforcement of other rules and regulations applying to foreigners on the mainland. A recent letter circulating on the mainland warns foreigners with residence permits in China to make sure they register with their local police station within 24 hours of arriving in China, and every time they return to the mainland from abroad. While these rules have been in place for years, the letter suggests that the authorities will step up enforcement of the regulations ahead of the Summer Games.
