Jiangbei District taking measures to promote agricultural innovation

In recent years, Jiangbei District has made great efforts to promote agricultural sciences and technologies so as to promote the development of modern agriculture.
Improving the agricultural environment. In line with the decision of the central government, the district formulated and implemented special policies to improve the agricultural innovative capacity, to marketize agricultural technologies and to increase the income of farmers. In the meanwhile, the district has formed a multi-channel investment mechanism, to ensure related programs to be fully funded, to enlarge investment in agricultural sciences and technologies, and to improve the agricultural environment.
In order to foster core competitive power in agriculture, the district has established an agricultural technological popularity system that consists of six government departments of the general agricultural technology popularity station, the general station of agricultural machinery, forestry and special agricultural products station, water conservancy service station, husbandry and veterinary service station, and sea food service station. It has made vigorous efforts to popularize agricultural technologies like water-saving irrigation, formulated fertilization and ecological breeding and so on. It has built 3 national-level standardized demonstrative areas, 3 provincial-level demonstrative areas and 11 municipal-level demonstrative agricultural areas.
Cooperating with higher educational institutions. The district has established a cooperative relation with Zhejiang University. On result of the cooperation is the Hangtang Fruit Production Base. This base has introduced 32 new technologies, popularized 26 varieties and technologies, and reached the target of standardized production in all the stages of seed breeding and production. In 2011, the production base got upgraded, increasing the per mu output to 20,000 yuan, increased by at least 50%
