| Mayor Calls for Harmonious Labor-Management Relations |

The city government held a joint meeting with the Federation of Trade Unions last Wednesday. At the meeting, Mayor Mao Guanglie stressed that efforts should be made to give scope to the leading roles of workers and that measures should be taken to guarantee the lawful interests of them. He said that we need to construct a harmonious labor-management relationship that is conducive to the sound development of the social and economic undertakings. 1500 Trade Unions to Be Established in New Year In 2007, more than 1500 trade unions will be established in order to attract more civilian workers to take part in them. It is expected that 260,000 workers will become trade union members and more than 85 foreign-invested enterprises will have their own trade unions. The main theme of trade union work will be developing harmonious work relation. The main tasks are described as pushing forward socialist labor race, creating harmonious enterprises, maintaining workers’ rights and establishing trade unions in enterprises. Yu Yikang, the vice party secretary of Ningbo Municipal Government, says that the role of trade unions should be fully played. He suggested that a new wage system which involves negotiation between employers and employees should be established. In enterprises, the labor contract system should be comprehensively implemented so that the wage of employees can be set in line with the development of social economy in local area.
